For this collection we had to chose a hero, icon, or role model as inspiration for the collection. I chose Rosie the Riveter, a WW2 era poster girl for the American war effort. She stood for the movement towards women entering the workplace and leaving their posts in the home as well as a patriotic symbol of American pride and citizenry working for the good of the country.
This collection was an effort to create clothing with a utilitarian side as well as capturing the feminine ideal in a financially difficult time. The fabrics range from flat suiting tweeds to long haired cotton velvet, to details with vinyl rubber.
